Fall is coming up and do you know what that means?
It’s the perfect time to mix up a big batch of chai tea latte mix to keep on hand for when those chai cravings kick in and you don’t have time to make a chai latte from scratch.
When the weather starts cooling off, there’s nothing I like more than to sip on a hot and deliciously fragrant cup of chai latte. I’d take the chai spices of a masala chai any day over a pumpkin spice latte!
But…I don’t always have the time or the kitchen space to heat up the milk, get the frother out and do all the things that it takes to make a chai tea latte at home.
That’s when I reach for my trusty chai tea latte mix. This premixed diy chai spiced tea has everything already mixed in so you just need to add it to a mug of hot water.
All I have to do is heat some water, pour it into a mug and add a couple of tablespoons of this powdered chai mix. And boom! You’ve got your very own homemade chai tea latte.
In just a minute, I’m drinking that warming, spiced black tea that I love so much, and I haven’t had to mess up my kitchen . 😉

What is Chai Tea Latte Mix?
Chai tea latte mix is a premixed medley of ingredients that you keep on hand in your kitchen for whenever you have a hankering for a chai latte.
This ready to go mix uses spices and unsweetened instant tea so there is no need to pull out our black tea bags or chai tea bags.
When you’re craving a cup of chai latte, just take a couple of scoops of your premade chai tea latte mix, add it to hot water and stir.
At the most basic level, your chai mix will contain:
- Instant unsweetened tea
- Sweetener: white cane sugar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc.
- Dry “milk” powder: nonfat dry milk powder, powdered non-dairy creamer, powdered milk, coffee creamer, etc.
- Spices – the masala chai spices that make your mixture spicy and warming.
Spices in Chai Tea
The spices in this chai tea latte mix are the traditional spices you’d find in any chai tea mix:
- Cardamom – This spice is what makes chai spice so distinctive.
- Cloves
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- White Pepper
- Nutmeg
The word chai actually means tea in Hindi. So if you want to get technical, the spices are really masala spices! And every family has a slightly different spice mix. If you’d like to mix up your very own chai spice mix to use in baking and other drinks, check out my chai spice mix recipe!
Customizing Your Chai Tea Powder Mix
While it is a shortcut that some chai latte fans will turn their noses up at, I love it because it’s not only convenient, but it’s completely customizable.
When you’re making your own chai tea powder mix, you can make just the way you like it. From the level of sweetness, the type of spices and even the type of milk, you’re in charge.
You don’t like ginger? No problem, just leave it out.
Do you like your chai extra spicy? Just add in some more ground cardamom, ground cloves, ground star anise and white or black pepper.
Like your drink super sweet? Go for it. You can even make your latte powder mix with french vanilla instant creamer.
Like an even richer version? Add a tablespoon of the mix to a mug of hot milk and froth it up with handheld frother. Or add a splash of coconut milk and whipped cream to your finished
How To Make Chai Tea Latte Powder Recipe
Gather Ingredients
This easy recipe couldn’t be simpler and you can get all the ingredients at your grocery store. You can start with this recipe and then tweak it if you decide you’d like to try different chai spice blends.
Combine Spices
If you want to make things really easy, just stir ingredients together in a large bowl.
If you have more time, I like to put all the ingredients and whole spices in a food processor and grind everything into a fine powder. I always do it this way if I’m making it for a gift.
If you don’t have a food processor or high speed blender, add all the spices to a coffee grinder, spice grinder or grind up with an immersion blender.
Store Properly
When you’re done, simply store the powdered mix in a cool dry place in an airtight container or cute mason jar.
