DoFasting App Review: Is It Worth the Money?

If you’re a novice intermittent faster, you probably wish that there was an easy way to track your eating and fasting windows.

If you have an Android or Apple smartphone, there are a ton of intermittent fasting apps that can make your fasting life easier.

Some of the top intermittent fasting apps are free to download, but there are a few good ones that do require a subscription.

DoFasting is one of the most popular paid intermittent fasting apps on the market, and I was provided free access to this app to provide a DoFasting review for my readers.

What follows is my honest opinion of the pros and the cons of the DoFasting app, one of the top intermittent fasting apps.

Do Fasting App

What is the DoFasting App?

The DoFasting app helps you track your eating and fasting windows when you are intermittent fasting.   It works on any Android or Apple smartphone so if you’re into using technology, this may be a good choice for you.

This is what the company says about their app:

It works as a personal assistant app that guides clients through their daily fasting schedule, keeps them motivated, and offers some useful tips and information on successful fasting.

How Do I Start Using DoFasting?

To get started with DoFasting, you complete a short quiz to get your personalized results and fasting plan.  Once you complete the quiz, you’ll be taken to a screen with your personal summary.  The summary shows your basic information (weight, BMI, recommended calorie intake, etc.), and how long DoFasting expects you to take to reach your goal weight.

If you’re curious, you can check out the quiz here: DoFasting Quiz

What does DoFasting Cost?

If you want more information, you enter your email address and DoFasting sends you the signup page and pricing information.   If you want to sign up, you can choose from three plans:

  • $1.25/week billed annually at $66 (regularly $264)
  • $1.75/week billed every six months at $46 (regularly $92)
  • $2.50/week billed every three months at $33 (regularly $66)

There was a 15 minute countdown timer on the webpage that reset without raising the pricing when it got down to zero, so I’m pretty sure you can take as much time as you need to decide without worrying about the pricing going up!

Because I’m kind of a science/math dork, I always look carefully at the pricing.  The regular pricing numbers didn’t really work out here for me – maybe it’s some special kind of intermittent fasting math.

Setting up the DoFasting Intermittent Fasting App

Once you sign up for a paid plan and download the app to your phone, this is what you’ll see:

Basics:

Once you log in, you can update your personal information like height, current weight and target weight.

The app’s settings section allows you to select units (metric or imperial), your time zone, and choose your language from 8 choices.

Fasting Schedules:

You can choose the type of intermittent fast depending on whether you consider yourself a beginner, intermediate or expert faster.  Within each skill category there are several schedules to choose from.  Beginners may want to start with a 12 or 14 hour fast while experts may want to try a 24 or 36-hour fast (Whew!  That one is probably not for me!)

Fasting Windows:

Once you choose your fasting schedule, the app allows you to select your eating window to suit your schedule.

DoFasting App Main Screen

The main menu has 5 sections, which I’m going to go through one by one below.

Home Screen

  • Fasting timer:   shows you how much time of your current window is left.   This is also where you can pause your fasting by 1 day, 2 days, or 1 week.
  • Water Tracker:    I couldn’t find a setting to adjust the recommended daily amount of water – my app seemed to be set for 8 glasses of 68 oz,  which I know is way too low for me.  It would be nice to be able to make adjustments in the amount of water you’re shooting for.
  • Progress:  The home screen also shows the number of fasts you’ve completed and your progress to your goal weight.

DoFasting Workouts

I did find this part of the app to be helpful.  I’m writing this review 3 months into our shelter-in-place orders in California, so all the gyms are currently shut down.  I really liked having access to these 30- minute workouts.  Each workout is a series of exercises that you can do at home without any special equipment.  Not only is there a written description of each exercise, but there is also a video you can follow along with.

You can change the workout settings to adjust both your fitness level (beginner, advanced, and expert), as well as the number of workouts you want to do each week (2-5).

DoFasting Meal Recommendations

The app allows you to choose your diet (regular, vegetarian, and vegan), as well as indicate if you have any food allergies (gluten, lactose, and nuts).

Once you choose your settings, you’ll find recipe categories for:

  • Breakfast
  • Morning Snack
  • Lunch
  • Dinner
  • Evening Snack
  • Popular
  • Fast & Easy
  • Low Calorie Meals

It really looked promising until I realized that it was giving me meat and dairy options even though I had checked vegetarian meals and lactose intolerance.

All of the recipes are for one serving and I don’t see a way to scale up, so this section probably won’t be useful for most people.

In addition, while you could add the calories from the recipes in the app to your daily total, I couldn’t find a way to add in calories for any food you ate that wasn’t in the recipes listed in the app – which makes the calorie counting part of the app pretty non-functional. I’d have to say that the area that disappointed me the most in this DoFasting review was this part of the app.

Intermittent Fasting Tips & Articles

This part of the DoFasting app has a bunch of articles grouped into three main categories:

  • Fasting Tips
  • Nutrition Tips
  • Fasting & Workouts

I haven’t read everything in this part of the app, but it looks like there is some good general information there. And if you like the idea of having tips and articles all in one place, this may be a feature that you find helpful.

DoFasting Review Support and Extra Help

FAQ

There is a FAQ section under the settings area.  It covers basics like how to set your preferences in the app, and how to reach DoFasting if you have questions about your account.

DoFasting Facebook Community

Once you purchase the app, you’ll have access to a Facebook group.  The group is very active and it’s a great place to ask questions, share progress and tips for intermittent fasting.

DoFasting Review:  Is DoFasting Worth It?

Deciding whether DoFasting is a good value for you will depend on just what you want to get out of the program. These are the features that stood out most for me during my DoFasting review.

Pros:

  • Ability to track lots of different schedules and to see your progress all in one place
  • Exercise workouts included that you can do at home without any specialized equipment
  • Active Facebook group if you’re looking for community support

Cons:

If you’re looking for a smartphone app to help you with intermittent fasting, give DoFasting a look.  While it is a paid app, you may find that some of the features like the Facebook group and workouts are worth the extra cost.
